England and Korea
Radcliffe Camera in Oxford, England - April 2026
After a trip to England for one week with Zora and friends I left for a two week stay in Korea. With six women we went on a tea tour and most of us discovered this beautiful country with its delicious food, kind people and divers teas.
Now I am happy to be home for a while and excited to brew a One Week Fiber Arts retreat for you all. I am hosting it here in South of France. A few things I know already is that it will take place in Spring of 2027. It is getting more concrete by the week but for now I thought I would put the bug in y’all’s ears and describe a little bit what I am thinking. Maybe you can tell me what would most excite you about such an experience.
In the same way as the workshops I was teaching in Colorado I thought we would be working on:
Weaving a piece on one of the student looms I love and have purchased over the years from Timber and Twine. I will show examples in my next blog post in the meantime you can find some of these samples on my website. This will take one day and can be almost the size of the loom or smaller.
Wet felting another piece, a small square or rectangle that can be the same size as the woven piece. This will also take a day and will happen on the warmest and sunniest day because we will be half way outside and using water and soap.
Sewing a nine piece patchwork by hand. This concept is still in progress in my mind because it can be fast and might be fun by adding sequences, beads and other three dimensional artifacts to.
Embroidering a neutral piece of fabric. This is also growing at the moment in my mind and I will have samples of all these in the next few months.
Those four pieces can make a pillow and that was my initial idea. People traveling from afar will have to possibly stuff their pillows at home. When I told Zora about this idea she said that maybe adults would not want to make a pillow but separate wall hangings. I am open and wondering if both of these might be options.
This will cover four days, a fifth to finish anything that needs it and put the pillow together. The workspace that my classes will be held at is in downtown Capestang, near Narbonne, South of France. It is one to two minutes from local cafes and restaurants so our lunch breaks will take place locally. Each fiber arts work day might be separated by a day of exploring - I find this helps our creative juices to flow.
The two or three other days around the workshop will be getting to know the town better, visiting my studio, walking along the Canal du Midi, visiting local buildings,… More is to be determined as I am still getting to know this wonderful area after one year of life here. Just like my trip to Korea I highly recommend my students come a few days before and maybe after the workshop to get adjusted from jet lag.
I am starting a list of flight options and really nice, local accommodations to choose from.
Zora and I are excited to show you a town and area that we have been finding community in for the past year.
Happy Spring! Enjoy the photos from England and Korea and don’t hesitate to comment and ask me questions.
