Three Months In

Back to Blue

Blue means so much to me.

My mom has always loved blue, she wore jeans and still does and even wears jean shirts with her jeans. When I grew up I wore a lot of blue and also loved blue.

Then I met Brian and in the Fort Collins store “Indigo Rose” I was looking at three tops: dark blue, black and olive green. I told Brian - this would have been 25 years ago - that I was looking at the blue and the black ones as my favorites. He said what about the olive green one and I said I have never really worn this color and am not sure I like it. He said I should not be color prejudiced.

This has stuck with me all these years and today, I think thanks to Brian and that day, I love all colors under the rainbow. Well, maybe I still don’t love the camel color, the one that looks like white/pink skin. Maybe I feel like when we were it we look naked. Though I don’t mind the latter.

Anyway, today I worked with Boris in Rieussec de Pardhaillan, a very small village in south of France. We worked on improving this house he rents out to a very nice family. I got to be a handy woman and the assistant of my brother. He is teaching me a lot and we are having a lot of fun. I have told him that we should open a business together, the carpenter and the seamstress. I have probably said it to him five times already since I moved to France.

This afternoon he said he would get a certification as a plumber and that he already looked at the test and passed every question! I told him that if he got his certification I would get mine as an upholsteress. So putting it out there today feels like a good way to make our way towards realizing some of those little dreams.

My studio is 1/5 of the way set up. It will take a long time but I am having so much fun working with and for my mom and brother. I will try to take pictures soon so you can see the before and after.

Brian is still having a tough time adapting to our new life here but I am really hoping he can soon call - this place we are renting and the community we are living in - home. At least for one year.

This Fall and Winter I am looking forward to slowing down.
