Home, Médiathèque & School

Working on making our new house feel more like home.

Greetings from Béziers and more specifically the Médiathèque André Malraux, a hygge* library & multi-media space! I just joined the MAM and am getting some much needed computer and correspondance work done here.

Let me tell you about the nine photos below:

  1. Before unloading: helping my mom move from Saint Léger sur Vouzance where I grew up to Saint Chinian a town twenty five minutes from where I live now. Fait seems to have made me happy this way and selfishly as this move has not been an easy one for Myriam. But my sister, brother and I have pulled it off to help her. I have made five trips (550 kms each and one way) to move her belongings with my dad’s trailer. Another great learning experience for me. The net is great and the tarp much needed in case of rain.

  2. After unloading: we are good actors don’t you think?! Third load delived to her address and ready for her to unpack when she gets here. That was actually yesterday and leaving my childhood house and her family raising life’s - and more - home was tough to say the least.

  3. Making and eating salads is the best, especially in the summer. I don’t know about you but I have to stay away from too many uncooked shallots (it actually took me five minutes to spell '“échalottes” in english) or onions for dinner otherwise I get a terrible and bitter taste in my mouth at night.

  4. Since my mom needed to leave her house in central France as soon as possible I took my grandma back - trailer in tow - to meet my aunt in Hyères, south of France so she can live there permanently from now on. My mom’s new permanent home in St Chinian has stairs and cannot acomodate my Mamie. Myriam will go be with her for a week here and there when my aunt needs her to. Mamie and Archie are such a sweet pair.

  5. Our belongings finally arrived August 19th and that was traumatic. Ask Brian about it!

  6. No more room in the house! We decided I need to rent a studio/storage space for my small business - that actually took half of our shipment. I am not proud of this but I vouch not to buy m/any more supplies and to create with what I have.

  7. Zora started school - orientation - Monday, September 1st. I am so happy that she seems to adapt well and be a flexible kid. I wish here to love and strive at her new school: Katia & Maurice Kraft (a couple of vulcanologues).

  8. Sushi in Béziers with Soan, Eli and Zora. These brothers and their cousin are the coolest kids to witness together. Eli and Zora alone listen to rock and classic english and french songs. I love that they share music together, they play card games, darts, billiard,… Soan and Zora are goofy kids together, she is so good at playing with her younger cousin who is just ten and a half years old. I love that Zora loves all humans: small to very grown up. She has actually said she doesn’t relate to some of the kids her age that are all into looks and attitude.

  9. Wow, slowly but surely the cardboard boxes are disappearing. I am grateful but also requested that the moving company we worked with used paper packing materials only. Wish I had thought to use our blankets a little sooner to avoid some of the glass damage on larger pieces. I have saved all the cardboard and paper if you know anyone moving from the Béziers area out.

Here’s to hoping that you have a wonderful end of summer, just the way you love it.

* “In both Danish and Norwegian, hygge refers to "a form of everyday togetherness", "a pleasant and highly valued everyday experience of safety, equality, personal wholeness and a spontaneous social flow".

The noun hygge includes something nice, cozy, safe and known, referring to a psychological state. The Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen has studied the positive effect of hygge on Danish society.”
